Weekend itinerary

Two Nights Between Beavers Bend and Broken Bow Lake

Find the cabin before dark, use Saturday morning for Beavers Bend and the Lower Mountain Fork, spend the afternoon on Broken Bow Lake, then keep Sunday short.

By Cal Mercer — a Second Star Guide itinerary

Broken Bow works best as three distinct stops: Beavers Bend in the cool morning, Broken Bow Lake in the afternoon, and the cabin after dinner.

Best length

2 nights

Two nights cover one Beavers Bend morning, one Broken Bow Lake afternoon, a Hochatown dinner, and time to use the cabin you paid for.

Main activity

Beavers Bend and Broken Bow Lake

Check the official park alert before entering the Lower Mountain Fork corridor, then keep the reserved marina or lake window intact.

Pace

Park morning, lake afternoon, cabin evening

Reserve the water activity and Saturday dinner. Leave the park morning flexible around release alerts, weather, and trail conditions.

A shaded forest footbridge in Beavers Bend State Park
Short park walks put pine, hardwood, creek crossings, and red dirt into the first morning.
A trout angler in the Lower Mountain Fork River
The Lower Mountain Fork below Broken Bow Lake supports year-round trout fishing; check releases and park alerts.
Breakfast and lake-day supplies in a Broken Bow cabin kitchen
A stocked cabin breakfast saves the park morning from a restaurant wait and a second drive.

Friday

Find the cabin before dark, then eat in Hochatown.

Stop for groceries before the last cabin road, save the door code offline, and keep the first meal casual so the porch still gets part of Friday night.

Saturday

Pines and trout water before a Broken Bow Lake afternoon.

Walk a short Beavers Bend trail or see the Lower Mountain Fork in the cool morning, then use the longest daylight block for the reserved boat, paddleboard, or cove time.

4:30 PM

Afternoon

Return to the cabin before dinner.

Allow enough time to drive from the marina to the cabin, unload wet gear, change clothes, and reach Abendigo's for the reservation.

Sunday

Cabin breakfast, one short park stop, and the road home.

Use the groceries already in the kitchen, check out on time, and add only a short trail, Forest Heritage Center stop, or lake overlook that fits the drive.
